What are FDA-approved Botox Cosmetic and Dysport?
Dysport and Botox injections consist of the same toxin (botulinum toxin type A) and are commonly used to treat facial wrinkles like forehead lines, glabellar lines (frown lines), vertical lines, and crow's feet, but they can also be used in the chin to avoid dimpling or in the masseter muscles to decrease jaw clenching. Both Botox and Dysport treatments have also been shown in clinical trials to reduce migraines, stop severe underarm sweating, and address overactive bladder or urinary incontinence.
Who is a Good Candidate for Botox and Dysport?
Good candidates for Botox and Dysport are patients in good overall health, nonsmokers or on any blood thinners, those without any medical conditions that could affect treatment, and those who haven't had an allergic reaction to the ingredients in Botox and Dysport in the past.
What to Expect From Dysport and Botox Injections
During your Dysport and Botox injection treatment, your provider will mark the area where they will inject and then apply a topical numbing agent if desired. Most patients tolerate these botulinum toxin injection treatments very well and don't feel more than minimal discomfort. After injections, you will be able to go back to most of your normal routine immediately, but you may notice some swelling or bruising at the injection site.
Dysport and Botox Results
The results of this cosmetic treatment typically take two weeks to fully show up, and at that point, you will see your fine lines and wrinkles fade, allowing you to achieve a more youthful appearance. If you're being treated for excessive sweating, you'll notice less sweating after two weeks.
